The Shell Building
1222 Locust Street
St. Louis, Missouri 63103
As a St. Louis-based trial and appellate lawyer, Canice Rice, as lead counsel, has tried more than 30 jury trials to verdict. He has also tried many dozens of non-jury cases.
He has appeared in courts throughout Missouri and Illinois and occasionally in other states.
He has briefed and argued more than 50 cases in the appellate courts of Missouri, Illinois, and the United States.
For over 30 years, he has had the highest rating for legal ability and ethics, as determined by judges and other attorneys, from Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory®, the world’s leading guide to the legal profession.
Civil trial work and appeals are at the core of his practice. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants, individuals and businesses, in a wide range of civil litigation.
Business owners have sought his aid in cases where the survival of the business depended upon the success of the litigation, so called “bet the company” cases.
His high-stakes, high-profile litigation has included citizens’ challenges of governmental actions and the defense of religious leaders.
He is regularly asked by other lawyers to assist their clients in complex and challenging litigation at trial and on appeal. On many occasions, he has been retained by another lawyer to represent that lawyer or a member of the lawyer’s family in judicial proceedings.
He is assisted by an able and experienced staff, including a skilled paralegal and legal assistants as well as other highly-skilled attorneys with whom he consults and often collaborates.
In addition to handling cases for fees determined by standard hourly rates, he often undertakes cases on a contingent fee basis: he is only paid if he obtains a successful result for his client.
